12月 26th, 2010I start to like Jesse Eisenberg
He's the face of this Facebook film - The Social Network, which is about the creation of the biggest social-media site on the planet.
I watched this film last week, but just started to read articles/interviews about it this morning, what a slow response! Impressed by Mr.Garfield's performance in the Boy A, while in this one I can only say that he has played his role better than people had expected, considering that his character has much less lines to deliver than our mouthful-of-terms protagonist. Speaking of characters, Mark is really an arse. The film opens up with his date with girlfriend, he keeps talking what other people would regard nonsense (may be he thinks other people are not intelligent enough to understand him), typical nerd I will say. This girl can't stand him any longer so she calls it off, Mark then goes back to his dorm and grumbles about it on his blog at Livejournal. He's just a immature boy doing what he wants to do while stays unintentionally out of touch with people.
So much for the story and straight on to the point of this post.(?!) Jesse Eisenberg appears to be shy but the interviews have proved that his innocent, puppet-like face is nothing but a delusion. He's a funny guy with a quick mind. I love his articulate way of speaking, clearly pronouncing each word like Ben Whishaw does.
Movieline has done an interview which becomes a five-part series:
1、Jesse Eisenberg on Awards Season, Narcissism and His Feelings About an Oscar Nomination
Notes:
- [on his doing after the publicity of TSN]
"I mean the last two months I’ve been traveling and I just constantly feel like I don’t know what I’m doing and like I’m shilling myself for… not shilling myself. Let me rephrase: The last two months it feels stranger to talk about yourself than to be yourself." - [The music volume increases in the bar; Eisenberg addresses the bartender] Is it possible to keep it down, we’re trying to do an interview? [The music is lowered]. Thank you.
-- This reminds me of him talking about the talk shows the crew did in Europe, how those Europeans made fun of them Americans. He exhibits some pride in these situations, from my perspective... - [on doing play reading vs. big film]
"The acknowledgments don’t necessarily coincide with how you feel about things." - [on possible Oscar nomination]
"I feel it’s such a bigger machine that has so little to do with me. It’s hard to think of myself in it. I don’t know… I don’t know.……I felt like I performed better in other things. So the reception is not in accordance with what I felt I produced." - "you want the movie to stand on its own; not have to rely on the cultural shifts or rely on its place in the zeitgeist."
- no Facebook
- [on reaching out to Mark Zuckerberg]
"If I could think of anything of value to say, I would. But I have nothing to say. I have nothing that would interest him." - [on life after the film release]
"I ride a bicycle……I’m in something where my face is on a poster in the subway, so of course people recognize me more." - [on the next project]
If he is recognized on the street and asked to take pics, he would agree on the condition that they would e-mail him the picture. Then he can put them out as a book to show the absolute absurdity of it:"Of standing there with my same dumb expression with 100 different people."
--I beg to differ, it's the same for him but for others it could be just once in a life-time experience.
3、Jesse Eisenberg on AOL Chat Rooms and Why He Hates Watching The Social Network
Notes:
- He didn't like watching The Social Network, because it's a great movie and all he could see was his faults. He doesn't want to be the weak link in something great. But, with Zombieland he felt like he couldn’t have done anything to screw it up. It was like watching a video game.
- [on watching himself in a movie]
"The hardest thing about watching yourself in a movie is that you see strange angles of your face that you never see."
4、 Jesse Eisenberg on Bill Murray, Walking Dead and Why He Became an Actor
Notes:
- "I liked acting when I was younger. I started when I was 8 years old, doing like children’s theater. When I got older, 13 years old, I wanted to perform with adults and come into New York City."
- "It (theater job) makes you think about performing in a way that is possibly more serious or more in accordance with more complicated parts of culture."
5、Jesse Eisenberg on Zombieland 2, Good Sequels and Missing John Ritter
Notes:
- [on Zombieland's sequal]
"It’s a risky thing to do. A lot of time what people like about the thing in the first place is not replicable. With a movie, there’s a hundred people working on it and everybody has an effect. Maybe some people have less of an effect, but everybody has an effect." - [on accepting Zombieland]
Another example of "Don't judge the book by its cover". He didn’t crack open the first page of the script for months, when he did it, he immediately realized that it was great — in many ways, far more sophisticated and rich in character than a lot of independent movies he's signed on to do which are supposed to emphasize those things because they don’t have guns. - Zombieland is the one movie that he can watch. He said the director has his own aesthetic that he brings to the movie that seems to him watching himself inside of a video game."I don’t feel as exposed. Maybe?"

Miles Kane: 'It's daunting being on your own'

Miles Kane:
Hamlet, Keats and Now Off Broadway
John Keats(Bright Star)、Keith Richards(Stoned)、Bob Dylan(I'm not There)、在Perfume: The Story of a Murderer中他是18世纪有着灵敏嗅觉的男人,在新版Brideshead Revisited中他是Lord Sebastian,在My Brother Tom中他是个精神失常的少年。
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat而浮出水面,之后他加入了一个青年剧团,剧团是由“十足的戏剧迷”领佳节又重阳导的,他还鼓励Whishaw去前卫的Complicite公司物色工作,多研究Sarah Kane的戏剧和演员Michael Gambon的巧妙演技。
Boy A [2007]
You deserve a better place than this cruel world.
Bright future? second chance? another life? salvation? don't believe these bullshit.
I WISH I COULD BE BRAVE, LIKE YOU.
Those people have seen you work and play just like everyone else do. Your mate has saved a girl following your lead, he opened his heart and hoped you would someday open yours. Yet, your hard-won present is wiped off by a terrible mistake in the past, you will be remembered by the ones who once be friended as the murderer. Funny they do not acknowledge the facts experienced by themselves, only to be blinded by the news or tales told by the others.
Human beings are vulnerable creatures. We do stupid things and are suffered by the consequences. We blame other people for hurting us, sometimes without realising that we are hurting someone at the same time. It's all about the chain of life, about the world moving on. But why? Why should the world go on and on?
That's a question which shouldn't be prompted in the first place. This planet do not revolve at our will. I'm being pathetic, again.
Don't leave me here to pass through time
Without a map or road sign
Don't leave me here
My guiding light
Placebo - A New Tomorrow
事实却如Brian所说,“The amount of time that we spent travelling negates the amount of time that we are on stage. The amount of time that we spent in soloist hotel rooms negates the actual pleasure of perfoming in front of people.”
Easy Virtue [2008]
Nothing works, just living hurts.)
